" I have worked alongside Gary and Ray working as a Principle Contractors Health and Safety Manager on New Build Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant attached to large paper mill in Kent. Gary and Ray were employed by the Civils contractor to build all of the required Reinforced Concrete works required for this project with an accelerated program. The program of works would have been challenging enough but due to the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 additional pressures would be realised on this project.
Having at the height of their work scope in excess of 70 operatives, co-ordination of their workforce long with other working parties was of paramount importance to the safety of this project. The Site Manager was Luke Askew, a competent and experienced Site Manager with a very good understanding and approach to the Management of Health and Safety on site. As with all large scale construction sites coordination is a key component to running a safe site and Luke Askew played a key role in the site Health and Safety forum looking for ways to keep as many operatives working on site without putting anyone at risk from the little know effects of Covid-19 at the time.
As part of the Site Management Health and Safety team Luke along with other members of the Health and Safety team had weekly site inspections, highlighting safety issues that needed to be addressed to improve the Health and Safety culture.as well as a pro-active measure to improve the Health and Safety culture of this sites and to prevent the risk of accidents occurring.
All in all I found Gary and Ray a refreshing pleasure to work with and would have no hesitation to recommend or work with this company in the future as I found Gary and Ray a very capable and Safety compliant to work with."

DS Smith acquired Kemsley Paper Mill in Sittingbourne in 2008, since then they have invested over £100m to ensure it was fit for purpose in the 21st Century.
As part of these works our client Gary and Ray Askew had been asked to construct a number of RC structures, their requirements were to have a system that could deal with the pressure of concrete from a 7.5m pour height, with an overall shutter height of 9m to accommodate a kicker of 1.2m, in addition the finish needed to be of good quality and required a quick turnaround with a number of pours planned.
Gary and Ray were keen to use the PERI MAXIMO system, this would give the required finish, and using the MX18 tie system would be able to utilise the full benefit of the system designed to suit a concrete pressure of 80kN/m2.
One of the main benefits of the MAXIMO system is its ability to eliminate conventional Dwydag tube & cones by using the MX tie system. The tapered tie also allows for it to be inserted from one side only, reducing labour costs.
Peri were keen to work in collaboration with Gary and Ray on this project as they were to be an early adopter of the MAXIMO system in the South East of the UK, designs were submitted and accepted and on-site training was provided.
The project was completed to everyone’s satisfaction, the MAXIMO system having been met with approval from both Askew’s and their client, DS Smith, we at PERI were impressed by Gary and Ray's grasp of the benefits of the system and their professional approach to its application and installation.
We have now used Gary and Ray on two separate residential and Commercial developments where they have been employed to carry out the full labour and material placement of extensive reinforced concrete retaining walls on the projects.
I can sincerely say that I will always look to use them in the future on other projects and most certainly recommend to anyone looking to employ them. They have always given excellent professional guidance throughout their contracts with us, they are a pleasure to have on site and have always provided an impeccable service and end product.
Great experienced guys on the ground and very professional.
